Brazilian President Defends Wikileaks
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva defended and provided his solidarity today to the WikiLeaks site’s founder, Julian Assange, arrested in London this week on charges of Sweden’s sexual crimes (2 charges: 1st – making sex with a woman without a condom, 2nd – making sex with 2 women in the same week – I want to let clear here that this has being translated as “RAPE” by the main press, so its important to put the dots over the I s).
The Australian Activist, whose site has caused uproar in American diplomacy by disclosing thousands of secret documents on diplomatic relations of the U.S. government (among others, including Brazil), had his attitude appreciated by the President in a speech defending the freedom of expression.
“Then appears WikiLeaks unveils the diplomacy that seemed unattainable, seemed the surest of the world, and then a search is started. I do not know if they did have to put posters like in the days of the Wild West, ‘wanted alive or dead’, and then they arrested the guy” , said Lula.
“If he did read it, it was because someone wrote. The culprit is not who released it, the culprit is who wrote. So instead of blaming those who released it, blame the person who wrote the silliness , this way we would not have this scandal” he added.
“So, Wikileaks, my sympathy for the disclosure of informations”.
Leaders of the diplomatic world have differed on the attitudes of Assange, with some countries condemning the disclosure of documents of Wikileaks and other authorities sharing the opinion of Lula.
In an ironic tone, Lula said that the elected next president Dilma Rousseff has to warn her ministers about the dangers of information leaks.
“I do not know if my ambassadors makes these kind of telegrams, but Dilma will have to know and talk to her ministers.”
“If you do not have something to write, do not write nonsense, pass a blank message”
Lula also criticized the Press on the subject:
“The guy was arrested and I’m not seeing any protest for freedom of expression. It’s funny. It has nothing, nothing for freedom of expression and against the arrest of a boy who was doing a better job than many of the ambassadors. As so we are now putting in the Presidency Blog the 1st protest: against the Freedom of Expression’s curtailment in the Internet”
Assange, who periodically lives in Sweden, was accused this year of sexual misconduct by two Swedish volunteers from WikiLeaks. The Australian, who denies the charges, presented to London Police following an international warrant for that charges.
Despite the arrest, the activist promised that WikiLeaks will remain confidentially disclosing details of information in North America. So far, only a small part was published.

Cartri, to be honest I do not see what any of this has to do with you project, would it not be better to have news like this put on a seperate page or blog.
People come to this site to get news on updates of the projects. I personally feel this could be hindering current and potentially new members from showing any interest in the project.
More frequent updates on the progress of the Mac Edition Bios on the front page in my opinion would be better.
Dont take this as having a go at you, after all it is your site and yours to run and publish as you see fit.
I will say thank you for the work yourself and others have put into this project it is much appreciated.
Zyph
Zypheruk. This is my blog.
This is not a bios farm.
If ever mac edition bios or any of my projects would become something senseless (tech for the tech) and unrelated to freedom of choice and expression I would close the project the same day (in fact I still did not after so many people unable to see the meaning of this in respect to everyone who helped, including you.).
Its impossible to not taking this as “having a go at me”, or even “having a go at the project” since its only reason is to make people think on the latest restrictive attitudes taken against technology – and bypass some of them, while STILL possible. I only publish what I do and what I think (be it bios or news) because I still believe that the IT world can wake up from the lock after lock that is being putted day after day with it.
I really can’t see much smartness in fixing a information restriction (software, firmware, press whatever) today and letting people create another tomorrow.
Again I ask myself what I am doing with this bios thing. Again I read something that – despite of opinion – makes me have no hope for this area, and I just wish to trow my papers away and stop sacrificing my time trying to teach pigs to sing in choir (its an expression, im not calling you or anyone else a pig, dont take me bad).
If i was playing LEGO with hexes for fun, i would do it at my house with my own pieces, if i was doing that for money, i would be at ibm or some of the hackintosh seller companies outside the country (Brazil) or, even better, would come back to my residential clients from which I earn much more.
I did sacrifice my time, my energy and my mind trying to show the world that Information – be it in OSX or in the Internet, or on your controlled-press newspaper – is under control, even more under control everyday.
If you cant see that my initiative and Assange’s one have the same only objective, I am sorry but you are blind on this.
I will say thank you for freeing me once and for all from the illusion that i could make any difference. This project is now closed.
By the way, if you want a bios update, ask Gigabyte Inc.
If you want Mac OS X to run on your machine, ask Apple Inc.
If you want a suicidal pledge, ask Foxconn.
I feel sick about how soon or later people have to retire from fighting against what is obviously wrong.
Cartri, really… you act like a manic primadonna who is switching between high mood and depressions. I would suggest you to let you help by a good psychiatrist. All three weeks we are expecting your whining about the bad people and most of us didn’t react because we find that the project is worth it to bear that. But enough is enough! Remember that many people are included in the BIOS project and until the Project is migrated to another server so that the others can continue your end their work!
I hope you think about my posting and don’t delete it because you get a critizism!
That was no criticism, you offended the boy from start till end.
Cartri don’t let these hearthless people stop you!
i am only honest and write what many people think! I am sick of people fawning around…
Calm down people.
I do what I want when I want if I want.
Its exactly for noting the kind of people who I was working to that I stopped.
This was never about “fawning”, this project was done to go against corporative control over software. Many people already have achieved what I try to do, and I know that you will find your blocks of plastic and metal working with their trials soon or later.
Many people think silliness.
I wont work for them.
