About & FAQ

Be welcome to Cartri’s blog.

This site is a personal blog maintained by a young Brazilian History Student (and also I.T. Technician) and everyone who “joined the boat” – be it by using and reporting back projects’ releases, be it by the debate of contemporary I.T. subjects under a social point of view.

I like to call it “Plog” as it was firstly created as a way to organize and track my projects, as I used to forget about most of them.

With time, I.T. users and technicians around the world got the idea of the site, which – as any blog – is in constant debate of subjects. I try to bring to our “frozen machines” world a bit of historical and sociological awareness and bringing to the end users hands the choices and knowledges about what and how they are using – or some times being used by – technology.

This site has no profit objectives, the main objective of it is bringing over the table technical subjects that most Companies likes to let under the carpet. To agree or disagree with the opinions here expressed are equally the objective of many of my posts: It’s not about liking or not something, but being aware of the social changes brought by the technological revolution, and having an opinion – whatever it is – on this matter.

The Projects are the material realization of such toughs and here shared among news, videos, opinions, history… a bit of everything.

Please be welcome to opine in every subject and project posted!

The Blog is temporarily reorganizing the way it was, in order to let clear that it’s intents were NOT RELEASING STUFF WITHOUT AN OBJECTIVE.

Quick F.A.Q. on the “Mac Edition Bios” project

This Project has as intent to show the world that its naturally possible to any normal person to install OSX into their machines, facilitating the process of doing so by emulating computer environments that will let the user do so easier.

Together with these BIOS/Firmwares comes the real subject:

Apple Inc. (AAPL) has been using many unorthodox practices  to over-control OSX and its variants (like iOS) leaving their own public with less choices of hardwares and softwares – what tends to monopoly and, in some countries like mine, conflicts not only with reason and good common sense but also with the law (www.vendacasadaecrime.org.br)

Hi I would like to get involved it this Project I just picked up a couple boards for testing 1 GA-EP45-UD3LR and 1 GA-EP45T-UD3LR. I also have a GA-EP45-UD3P version 1.6 that I am using right now. I have only been fooling around with OSX86 project for the last 1.5 years but I have been building PC’s since 1997. So I do my way around the hardware. Here is my Email Iam2twisted4u@gmail.com

    • Cartri says:

Hello Fearlessleader, be welcome to our new home!
Your mail will be added as an alpha tester to all the boards above mentioned, and you will soon receive a mail about the new way of alpha-testing we are going to do from now on.
      :)

  • Asher says:

    Hello,
i have a small question, i have a EP45T-UD3R, will the BIOS for EP45-UD3R work on it?
if not, are you planning to support my mobo? i dont see it in the list.

    thank you

  • Arya says:

hi cartri i have a EP43-UD3L and i can be your tester, i have send you a tweet few days ago.. btw.. very nice site :D

  • dmacd says:

will your bios work for ga-ex58-u3r boards? I have been told these board work great with OSX86 but I can’t seem to get mine working.

    Hope you can help.

    • Cartri says:

For now this project is focused on finishing support for P43 and P45 boards. When im able to build a x58 and a P55 systems (or find a neighbour rat lab machine, who knows) i will then be able to start working on them too

  • DDiaz says:

Hello Cartri. I see my mobo (GA-EP45T-UD3LR) on the bios list. Can I safely flash my bios rom now? If it goes wrong, can I replace with a saved copy?
I know spanish and would like to translate the .pdf if you let me know, OK?
I have not read the instructions yet, I just happened to see your project mentioned on a google search result, while I was researching how to get rid of the Orange Icon problem. I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.3 on my Gigabyte mobo and sleep wont work. Occasional freeze-ups too.
Congratulations on this project, you rock!!

  • Clive says:

    Hi Cartri,

    I have UD3p, DS3L and DS3R. I can be your tester too.
So far, I have 0.7m on my DS3L running 10.6.3. Everything works except sleep. Need some suggestion on what to fix that.
I will try to update 0.7h to DS3R and test it either today or tomorrow. Thanks!

Hi My Name is Thomas Ellis and Here are my specs EP45-UD3P bios rev.1.6 8GB G-Skill @800,Q6600(upgrading soon),PNY 9800 GTX+,(upgrading soon)Asus Wifi&Bluetooth,2 tera HD, I love what you are doing and if you need help testing anything please let me know I have been on a mackintosh for over a year and half (I believe it should be called a Mackintosh and not a hackintosh but oh well…lol oh and I have a Corsiar H50 cooler, I have a few questions about my rig this build which I followed Life Hackers Guide and everything is working great only have had 3 Kernel Panicks and that was due to flash I believe. So I will be waiting as long as long as I have to for the UD3P bois Thanks for your hard work

  • Dick Moore says:

Hi, Cartri — thx for getting the EP45-UD3R out. Can I continue to use the two JMicron SATA ports (the purple ones) in AHCI mode, as I do now with Asere’s 1.1.9/Chameleon bootloader? I don’t need or want the IDE capability — I’m all AHCI now.

    Thx, Dick

  • JP says:

    Blessings,
very inspiring work you are doing.
I have an EP45-DS3R and I would like to help in the testing. Out of curiousity, if I have a dual-boot system with WIN 7 64x on another drive, is your modded bios going to prevent or disrupt the ability to have both systems?

    Best,
    JP

    • Cartri says:

Never, thats the difference of the modded bios idea and other hack methods: its made to Work on windows 5.1 (XP) and superior, Linux 2.6 and up & Mac OS 10.4 and supperior
Keeping full compatibility with modern acpi OSs is not a will but a NEED for each release.

  • Conrado says:

Hey dude, where are you from? Nice to know that a great biosmodder like you live in my country! Take care in Rio. I’m from Natal-RN and waiting for a GMA 4500M driver with full QE CI support =) (i’m watching this thread: http://miud.in/3Pm)

    • Cartri says:

Yes, i guess our country is finally showing the world that we exists. I think in how much time we lost from 68 till 88… but now its time to show off that the world 9th economy (and 9th army) can not be treated as a 3rd world country. We do have brilliant minds, brilliant culture, a great history – already having been the capital of portugal, an empire, etc – and great culture.
Its time to unearth our culture, our history, and our dignity and also go forward to new techs and development.

  • Hassouna says:

    Hello
i have CR400 MSI laptop , can you help me to install osx 10.6 on it ? do you have a patched bios for it ?
if you need bios file i will send it to you
    thanks

I would like to be a beta tester. My board is GA-EP45-UD3P. I have been building and hacking computers since 1987 with my Amiga 1000, PC’s since 1998 and Hacintosh for about 2 years.

  • Federico Krum says:

First of all, thanks. I love to see projects like this, where is clear that final status is to learn and to share.
I have an EP45-UD3R with 0.7m installed. I’d like to Alfa test.
Yesterday I put my system to sleep, and today in the morning, while trying to wake it up, the system started to try to wake up puying all mobo leds on and off forever. So I reset the system and when restarted, an error saying that the CMOS data was corrupted appeared.
My extensions in the /e/e/ folder are:
    JMicronATA.kext
    SuperVIAATA.kext
    fakesmc.kext
    LegacyHDA.kext
    VoodooPowerMini.kext

    My install method was MyHack

Just wanted to report this case.

    Thanks

    • Cartri says:

Fred, the latest compiled bios – alpha or not – on your motherboard is now this one.
try reinstalling it being sure to use Chameleon RC4 installer v3 and being SURE to RESET CMOS ENABLED and aslo to have KEEP DMI DISABLED as stated on the manual

  • PgZ says:

You’re doing amazing work, keeping your target group in mind and simplifying the whole OSX-on-a-pc process. Certainly if you’re also planning to integrate the bootloader.

I can’t wait for a release for my motherboard!

    Keep up the good work!

  • Mark Guth says:

Hi. I have a GA-EP45T-UD3LR mother board, and over this last weekend took the plunge. (my wife freaked out that I was “breaking” our shared home pc… “Again.”)
It worked perfect. I guess it took less than 10 minutes total.
I had to tweek the HD boot sequence, which gave me a scare, because Chameleon didn’t show up on the first boot; however fixed that, and like magic, I was up and running.
Sound, sleep, etc. all are perfect.

This is a great project!!! Thanks for all!

  • Josh says:

    This is really awesome stuff!
Question: I know you mention adding Intel support. Would this include a board like mine:
    DQ45EK

    Thanks!

  • Nico says:

This may seem like a silly question, how ever, I just wanna confirm it! I know you wrote NO “P35 or P41″ boards….Does this also mean No EP35-DS3P? :(
Would be happy to help in anyway..

    Cheers

  • PXMBOX says:

    Hello Cartri!

More I read about the project, more I see his incredible your work here!

One question: After loading the bios 0.7m on P43-DSL3, I can install a
Original DVD of Snow Leopard 10.6.x from company on I work? Need
change some else on Leopard as in OSX86?

    Thanks!

  • PXMBOX says:

Grande Cartri! Você é Brazuca! :) Falha de atenção minha! :(

  • PXMOBX says:

    Perfeito, Cartri!

Então com esta bios atualmente pode-se testar uma distro como menos kexts, mais limpa com menos intervenções nas configs do SO, seria isso?

Ficarei acompanhando o blog no aguardo do cd de boot!

    Um abraço obrigado!

  • Elskardio says:

    Hi Cartri,

does your bios support OSX 10.5.8 ?

    Thanks

  • Greg says:

Hi Cartri, I am running an EP43-UD3L and am willing to be a tester for your 0.7n if it is ready for that board. I don’t even care if it runs Windoze ;) . I have done some of my own DSDT mods but it was all cut and paste from different sites. Great work…

  • Vladimir says:

    Cartri,
can you please point me in to page on this website where it is explained WHAT is this all about? What is done or what will be done doesn’t help. There is no single word of explanation why would anyone use your products?!
On the other hand, the website has no contact details, there is no way that anybody can contact you directly.

my email is mr_W@mindnever.org so if you don’t plan on putting any info online, can you please send it to me personally?

    Thanks,
    Vladimir

    • Cartri says:

Hi Vladmir, any post done is a direct contact with me once this is a blog, its just a log of my projects. The pdf is highly informative on the bios project, the ac downloads are also explanatory.
And i dont consider any bit here a product, im not selling anything, just freely distributing AS IS my achievements, opinions, etc. What exactly are you trying to understand?

  • Vladimir says:

    Thanks for this informative response,

for the start, I wouldn’t ever consider going to ‘Downloads’ section without first knowing a bit more about the project. However, now I know that there is ‘PDF’ and I must conclude that it could be in Downloads section.. How would anyone else know that? I’m just talking here about the usability of your website, not about your BIOS work :)

Should I also mention that I’m not just a random web surfer, but also software developer so this kind of disability for project (yes, project should be better word than ‘product’ – my mistake, sorry!) bothers me a little bit.

I just wanted to make a suggestion to make your website a bit more structured and accessible.

    Kind Regards,
    Vladimir

    • Cartri says:

Thanks, Vladimir, im one of the most disorganized persons i know.
thats why the site theme is a messy desktop, makes me feel home, but is not as half messy as is my own desktop, hehe.
I hope I will find time to structure the blog better… this FAQ is all but complete, its a copy and paste from a post made somewhere.

  • savadious says:

Hello – I was one who donated with paypal to you – the same as I donate to MANY other special interest tech websites.

I see your new donation tab and request you remove the comma so people are not confused.

$5 maybe should be listed as just 5
    because
$5,00 looks like $500 as many other western countries use a period to end a monetary amount and comma to simply organize it. Please see example of this period vs comma at http://store.apple.com/us

I 100% support you – I just dont want anyone to get afraid when they see the number and become unsure if its $5 or $500

Keep up the good work Cartri !
From an ex- CA.com employee that had an office in Brazil.

    • Cartri says:

Thank you savadius! For your support and your tip, ill take off all the ,00 from the numbers! And paypal will release the funds in october so you did not donate in vain.
Thanks again for your kind words.

Dude, your site sucks. You need to tell us what this all means for it to be useful – I’m sure you are doing good work, but WTF is all of this and what does it do?

    • Cartri says:

It is not focused on people who can’t understand what is implicit, nor for those who can’t use proper vocabulary

Jimmy – Honestly, if you actually read and researched before you posted you would know what it was about.

  • jamonda says:

In my opinion, the site is excellent as it is. If one searchs for Cartri’s BIOS in the Internet he knows exactly what he’s looking for. Otherwise, he shouldn’t even try to findit. This is not a commercial website, it’s an extension of the OSX86 community for P43/P45 Gigabite motherboards owners. All the information needed is provided by the manual found in the download section.

now i want to install the system new and i whant to use YOUR fantastic mac-bios

can i change later back to the original Gigabyte Bios? i also use windows 7 on a second harddisk with cameleon, i think this is no problem?

    thx 4 your help
    Franky from Vienna

    • Cartri says:

You can use any windows or linux after and including WinXP and Linux 2.6
So no problem with windows, and yes, you can always go back to original bios, these both doubts of yours have been a priority since the beginning :)

Is pricing, driven by import duties, or other factors too ?

Is cross-border importing of small items, in ones & twos, problematic ?

      Hello!
Almost all neighbor countries have the same taxes, the ones that does not suffer the same incoming rules here: bringing a item from Paraguay or from USA without paying the taxes is a crime in anyway.

network and graphic card are not recognized correctly. graphics don’t support res change and qe/ci and none of the network cards are workin. Hope you have got some hints for me.

I also have an MSI P43 or P45 NEO board if you want it, I can’t remember off hand as its sitting in its box in the cupboard at home (I will ship it to you free if you are interested) – I ripped it out last week and bought a P45 UD3R just so I could run OS X as I had read in many places the gigabytes are best for OS X and now I find your website – awesome!

thank you. it is really a cool thing to get rid of dsdt. doest this mean i can simply upgrade my snow leopard server 10.6 to 10.6.4 ? everything works perfectly now, i dont want to ruin it

    • Cartri says:

Hmm, I have no experience with server on Mac Bios, i only use it in a Frankensteined real mac. For the normal system you can just combo update to 10.6.4 with no problems, but please, if you can, make a backup of your install and try the COMBO update, it should run just fine in theory, but is not tested. If you are going to test it on Server, please, post back your experience and also your motherboard and bios version.

Thanks a bunch , this is exactly what ppl that love macs but want more options need . Not to mention mac friends with tight budgets .
Dont forget to pickup a retail snow leopard , apple deserves the profit for a well made OS we all like and (hopefully) use :)
